Stranger Things 3

The Netflix hit’s third season is set to be released this year, July 4th 2019, with the following poster revealing our main protagonists Eleven, Mike Wheeler, Dustin Henderson, Max Mayfield, Lucas Sinclair and Will Byers. It appears the kids are celebrating a summer-filled night of fireworks, yet there’s a sense of dread in both Eleven and Will’s expressions, as they gaze at the horrible darkness of the Upside Down, twisting and worming its way into the world.

In the lead up to the release of Season 3, the other following things have been announced.

In a recent teaser revealing the release date of Stranger Things 3, we have old stock footage from the iconic television segment ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 1985′, which in this case, is sponsored by Starcourt Mall, with the footage looking like it’s being hacked, glitching and cutting to an old tech computer screen with green text on black, with data holding cryptic messages like “when blue and yellow meet in the west” and a program being run called “silver cat feeds” by Lynx Corp.

The broadcast gradually inverts, referencing the Upside Down.

The computer phrases are actually morse code messages that are referenced in the official behind-the-scenes companion book.

There is speculation that the blue and yellow could be referring to the hands of the clock at Starcourt Mall (among other theories), a new location for season 3.

Previously a teaser for all of Season 3’s episodes titles was unveiled by Netflix:

  1. Suzie, Do You Copy?
  2. The Mall Rats
  3. The Case of the Missing Lifeguard
  4. The Sauna Test
  5. The Source
  6. The Birthday
  7. The Bite
  8. The Battle of Starcourt

Other speculation is that some of the new titles make a reference to rats, just as the new poster featuring our main kids shows a bunch of rats moving off into the twisting darkness.

Season 3 is also set to see the appearance of new characters to the town of Hawkins. Robin (played by Maya Thurman-Hawke) is an “alternative girl” bored with her mundane day job. Looking for more excitement in her life, she gets more than what she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins.

Mayor Kline (played by Carey Elwes) is described as a “handsome, slick and sleazy politician” more interested in his own public image than the matters of the people.

Bruce (played by Jake Busey) is a set to be a journalist with a sick sense of humour and questionable morals, working at The Hawkins Post.

In addition Erica (Priah Ferguson), Lucas’ younger sister, is set to move from a guest to recurring role.

Earlier on, the following teaser was released, a clip in the style of an 80s TV commercial, to promote the new Starcourt Mall. We get a glimpse of Steve Harrington as an employee at the ice cream shop Scoops Ahoy, alongside new girl Robin.

Furthermore, there is a possible hint of political intrigue to come, with the 1984 Cold War spy novel, ‘The Hunt for Red October’ by Tom Clancy appearing in the window display at Waldenbooks.

The following behind-the-scenes video shows the cast of Stranger Things 3 commencing production, revealing the old cast, and new cast additions, in what looks to be set up as a table reading.

All in all, I’m excited for the new season, and interested to find out where the story goes for Stranger Things 3.
